Want to become a part of Chamotte? Whether you're new to pottery or already have some experience, this intensive weekend course is designed to give you all the skills you need to work independently in our Studio. It's the perfect starting point for those considering Membership at Chamotte.
This workshop introduces you to the world of ceramics and teaches you how to confidently navigate our pottery Studio. You’ll gain a solid foundation in hand-building, wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing—everything you need to continue developing your skills in future workshops.
12-Hour Course | 230 € | Materials, Tools & Firings Included
The course’s estimated value is 900€, including expert instruction and guided practice. However, you can participate for only 230€ when you commit to at least two consecutive months of Membership at Chamotte after the course. The Membership fee for these months is not included in the course price. Any Membership tier (Half / Full / Pro) can be chosen after the Course.
Course Schedule
Saturday
9:00 - 12:00 (3h) - Theory & Handbuilding
Introduction to clay types, drying stages, and firings
Basics of hand-building techniques (pinching, coiling, and slab-building)
Create your first hand-built ceramic piece
13:00 - 16:00 (3h) - Wheel Throwing
Learn to prepare and wedge clay
Master centering, pulling, and shaping forms on the wheel
Create your first wheel-thrown piece
Sunday
9:00 - 10:30 (1.5h) - Trimming
Refine and trim your wheel-thrown piece
Experiment with different trimming tools and techniques
Add textures, handles, or decorative elements
10:30 - 12:00 (1.5h) - Glazing
Learn glazing fundamentals and surface decoration techniques
Prepare your pieces for the glaze firing
Apply glazes to achieve your desired finish
13:00 - 14:00 (1h) - Studio Tour & Membership Orientation
Explore the Chamotte Studio and learn how to work independently
Receive your dedicated shelf and access key
Get answers to any final questions before starting your pottery journey

This workshop isn’t about creating perfect pieces—it’s about understanding the full process of pottery and learning how to do it correctly. Mistakes are part of the journey, and understanding each step is crucial to preventing damage to your work, the work of others, and studio equipment. As a Collective, we rely on each other to create a respectful and supportive space.
Participants in the Weekend Intensive Course commit to becoming Members of Chamotte for at least two consecutive months after the course (Membership fee not included in the course price).
